Viewing Life with Childlike Eyes

“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 18:3

Children are our most precious resource.  We love and adore them because of their innocence and loyalty.  They trust us as adults to make the best decisions for them.  From the beginning, their entire life is mapped out, from primary school to college.  God, the father wants us to trust Him and the plans that He has mapped out for us with the same innocence, humility, and sense of wonder.  From the beginning, he knows the ending, if we would just trust Him.

In the Bible, the importance of childlike faith and humility is emphasized by Jesus.  A faith and humility that does not waiver or question is what God seeks from us.  Faith that believes the Bible and all its truths, simply because God ordained it.

As stated in Matthew 18:3-5 (NIV), Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoever welcomes one such child in my name, welcomes me.”  We must be like little children if we are to enter the kingdom of heaven and who among us does not desire to enter the kingdom?

Being childlike demonstrates a willingness to trust that God can and will do exactly what He said.  That kind of faith comes when we are ready to absorb whatever God has to offer without question, allowing a deeper connection with Him.  Children trust and rely on their parents without hesitation or doubt because of who they are, similarly, we should have the same trust and faith in our heavenly Father because of who He is.

In the parable where the child offered his meager lunch of five  loaves and two fish to feed thousands, it was because his childlike faith believed that Jesus could do anything.  It demonstrated a remarkable level of trust and faith in God’s ability to work miracles. (Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, John 6:1-15) How many of us would have limited God based on our own inability?

When children pray, they pray with expectancy, never doubting that their prayer will be answered.  We must demonstrate the same faith.  Childlike eyes are not a suggestion, they are mandatory.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Help me to view life with childlike eyes so that I can trust your Word and trust You without hesitation.  Help me to have a sincere and trusting relationship with You that never doubts.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen!
