Living with the End in Mind

Ecclesiastes 7:8

“The end of a thing is better than its beginning; Patience of spirit is better than haughtiness of spirit.”

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to become consumed by immediate concerns, pleasures, or temporary challenges. Yet, as believers, we are called to live with an eternal perspective, keeping the end in mind.

When we look at what is taking place in our lives, it may not seem to have a very good beginning, it’s easy to pass judgment on where we are in life at the moment.

God’s Word defines what our outlook should be toward all that He has called us to experience by His grace.  We are very limited in our understanding of what God is doing in our lives. We are not able to know or understand how something will end by the way it began.

The end is better for God’s people because the Lord is very much interested in the process. If you are living a life of faith, if you are trusting in Christ in daily living, the end will explain how you have lived your life.

Look at Job’s life. Job 8:7 says, “Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.” How true this was for Job; we see in Job 42:1-2 the double portion that he received at the end of his trial.

Remember,  following God’s path doesn’t necessarily mean you will never have trouble or discomfort. The enemy will constantly find a way to challenge, discourage, and try to paralyze you by second guessing, fear, worry and anxiety.

Hebrews 6:18 says…” So, God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.”

While we may not know the exact length or trajectory of our earthly journey, by living with the end in mind, we are reminded of our divine calling, embracing each moment as an opportunity to glorify God and impact lives for His Kingdom. Trust the process, stay in His Word, and spend time in His presence.

Prayer:

Father give me the wisdom to live with the end in mind, recognizing the fleeting nature of my earthly life and embracing the eternal values of Your kingdom.  Guide my steps, shape my heart, and help me prioritize what truly matters. I pray that my life be a testament to Your love, grace, and transformative power, reflecting Your light to a world in need.  Equip me to live intentionally, love unconditionally, and serve faithfully, always keeping my eyes fixed on eternity with You.
