I have read many times the story in Daniel 10, when He was praying to God and fasting for 21 days. It appeared that God did not hear Daniel’s prayer. From the first day that he prayed, God sent his answer, but the answer took 21 days to get to him. The angel said to him:

“Relax, Daniel,' he continued, 'don't be afraid. From the moment you de- cided to humble yourself to receive understanding, your prayer was heard, and I set out to come to you. But I...was delayed for a good three weeks... And now I'm here to help you understand what will eventually happen to your people. The vision has to do with what's ahead.”

What if you had the opportunity to honor God as well as become physically and spiritually stronger simply by giving up things that are not good for you? The bi- ble says in Daniel 1:8 that he “purposed in his heart that he would not defile him- self...” The idea of purposing is a choice that is based on determination and commit- ment. In life, every choice you make has a consequence. The choices and com- mitments you make will show what you value and will determine your future. Daniel was making a statement of faith when he asked for only vegetables to eat and water to drink.

Our purpose for this booklet is to encourage you to fast and pray for 21 days. This fast involves a spiritual commitment to God. The level of your spiritual commit- ment will be reflected in your time commitment and your constant prayer over the next three weeks. Our prayer for you this year is Proverbs 3:5-6, “In everything you do, put God first and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.” We hope this booklet will encourage you to enter into a lifetime of prayer and fasting.

Muchas veces he leído la historia en Daniel 10, donde él estaba orándole a Dios y ayunando durante 21 días. Parecería que Dios no había escuchado las oraciones de Daniel. Desde el primer día en que Daniel comenzó a orar, Dios había enviado la respuesta, pero tomó 21 días para que ésta le llegara a Daniel. El ángel le dijo:

“Entonces me dijo: "No tengas miedo, Daniel. Tu petición fue escuchada desde el primer día en que te propusiste ganar entendimiento y humillarte ante tu Dios. En respuesta a ella estoy aquí.13 Durante veintiún días el príncipe de Persia se me opuso, así que acudió en mi ayuda Miguel, uno de los príncipes de primer rango. Y me quedé allí, con los reyes de Persia.14 Pero ahora he venido a explicarte lo que va a suceder con tu pueblo en el futuro, pues la visión tiene que ver con el porvenir." Daniel 10:12-14 (NVI)

¿Qué pasaría si tuvieras la oportunidad de honrar a Dios de la misma manera y a la vez fortalecerte física y espiritualmente con simplemente abstenerte de aquellas cosas que no son buenas para ti? La Biblia dice en Daniel 1:8 que él “se propuso no contaminarse…” La idea de proponerse es una elección que de basa en la determinación y el compromiso. Toda decisión que tomas en tu vida tiene una consecuencia. Las elecciones y los compromisos que haces demuestran tus valores y determinan tu futuro. Daniel estaba haciendo una declaración de fe al pedir solamente vegetales para comer y agua para tomar. El propósito de este cuadernillo es animarte a ayunar y orar durante 21 días. Este ayuno implica un compromiso espiritual con Dios. El nivel de tu compromiso spiritual se va a reflejar en tu compromiso de tiempo y oración constante durante las próximas tres semanas. Nuestra oración para ti este año es Proverbios 3:5-6, “Confía en el Señor de todo corazón, y no en tu propia inteligencia. Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, y él allanará tus sendas.” Esperamos que este cuadernillo te anime a comenzar una vida de oración y ayuno.
